Top 5 Handmade Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa Gift Ideas

Christmas Tree CookiesEach year hundreds of thousands of families spend more than necessary on holiday gifts. Instead of buying gifts, make them yourself. There’s no need for the holidays to put a dent in your wallet. These ideas for handmade gifts will save money and be something special.

1.  Edible Goodness: A lovely box filled with cookies, cupcakes, breads, or muffins can be a special holiday gift. If you don’t mind sharing your best recipes, put them into a personalized cookbook to share with family and friends. You can include photos and stories about holiday cooking memories. Another idea is to give the gift of jarred jams, preserves, or pickles.

2.  At-home Spa: Using everyday items like salt, essential oils, sometimes even olive oil and powdered milk, it’s easy to make bath salts. Homemade candles make a great addition to the at-home spa kit, and hand-dipping candles is a fun activity to do with kids.

3.  Gift A Service: This is a fun gift kids can give to their parents.  When we were little, my brother and I would make our parents coupon booklets. Coupons would include offers of complaint-free chores, foot massages, or making breakfast while our parents got a rare chance to sleep in.

4.  Journals, Note Cards & Stationary: Using handmade recycled paper, twine, and potato-stamps that kids can make themselves, create journals, note cards or stationary that are great gifts for anyone.

5.  Framed Kid Art: Take your child’s best works of art and frame them, maybe even in a well-crafted homemade frame. Or have your child draw a picture of your loved one and write what they love about them.  This makes a great present for grandparent, aunts, and uncles.
